Sudanese Men’s Education Project
This project offers English and Computer skills education to Sudanese men. If you would like to be involved and have skills teaching English or Computer skills on a Monday or Tuesday morning, we would love to hear from you.
Background
The project is a pilot project specifically aimed at the resettlement and re- education of Sudanese refugee men, primarily in the 25- 45 year old age group. The program, which commenced in Feb 2010, offers Sudanese men classes in English and Computer Studies and takes place on Monday & Tuesday mornings.
These Sudanese men get together at the HARDA office in Flemington on Monday and Tuesday s from 10-12.30pm for English & basic computer classes. There they have a chance to socialize as well as have classes in English & basic Computer education. The intention is to keep the classes small allowing as much individual attention as possible. Teaching is provided by volunteers.
If you would like to be involved and have skills teaching English or Computer skills we would love to hear from you.
We do plan to run offer some other workshops, where feasible such as hardware skills & safety, etc. In time, if we can obtain further funding, we would also hope to be able to look at running seminars and workshops dealing with cultural and other issues that relevant such as legal issues and responsibilities (incl. the legal system, discrimination, violence in the home and outside, police), health issues (such as substance abuse, nutrition, etc) and so on as well as offering individual counseling if identified as a need.
